FEEL-Lab

Psychology in the Learning Sciences (Prof. Dr. Anne Frenzel)

FEEL-Laboratory (Research on Real-Time Emotion Recognition in the Learning Context)

In the FEEL lab, comprehensive, multimodal non-invasive methods for measuring emotions are implemented to generate insights into antecedents, consequences, and correlates of emotions in teaching and learning situations. In this way, typical bias and confounding effects, by which the previous predominantly self-report based research in this context is characterized, shall be excluded. The ongoing situation-adaptive and multimodal emotion measurement by means of the iMotions software platform allows to answer innovative research questions in experimental emotion psychology related to the functions of emotions for information processing and learning. In addition to such intrapersonal phenomena, social teaching-learning settings with multiple individuals are also implemented in the lab, for example to explore phenomena of interpersonal synchronization of the emotional experience of interaction partners (keyword emotional contagion).
