EVEnT-Lab

Developmental and Educational Psychology (Prof. Dr. Beate Sodian; Prof. Dr. Markus Paulus)

EVEnT Lab (real-time acquisition of behavioral and developmental measures and motion tracking)

The unit has extensive expertise in the study of cognitive and social development between infancy and primary school age. Emphasis is placed on the development of Theory of Mind and its correlates - from action understanding in infancy to social-cognitive and metacognitive processes in school age. These constructs and the early childhood understanding of action as well as prosocial and moral development in early childhood are assessed in experimental individual tests as well as in interactions with third parties (e.g., with the mother). In addition to video-based behavioral observation, neural methods such as EEG and fMRI, eye movement measurement (eye tracking) are used. For most projects, test situations or interactions between test participant and test leader and/or parent or between different test participants are filmed and verbal as well as non-verbal behaviors are coded. Motion tracking of hand and arm movements is also planned.
