ET 2: Conceptual Development and Conceptual Change

The development of conceptual knowledge during childhood and adolescence and conceptual change in the context of learning and teaching across the lifespan are research focus of this ET. Disciplines such as Developmental Psychology and Science Education - as well as psychological research on learning and instruction - analyse naïve theories and misconceptions as well as the effects of instruction both within and beyond the school setting. Currently, researchers in this ET are analysing cognitive and neural processes underlying conceptual change, and exploring the interplay between the development of basic cognitive functions and processes of conceptual change.
