Travel & Accommodation

By plane:

The closest airport is Franz-Josef-Strauss airport Munich (MUC). Being the second largest German airport, there are plenty of connections to and from all parts of the world to MUC. From the airport, you can either take a taxi to the Faculty of Psychology and Education at LMU (costs: approx. 70 €; duration: about 40 minutes) or take the S-Bahn train (either line S1 or S8) to Marienplatz, transfer to the subway lines U3 (direction: Moosach/Olympia-Einkaufs-Zentrum) or U6 (direction: Garching Forschungszentrum/Garching-Hochbrück/Fröttmaning) and get off at Giselastraße (3rd stop north from Marienplatz). There, take the rear exit of the subway station and turn to the right. You are then standing in front of the Faculty for Psychology and Education building (so-called “piggy” building due to its pink colour). Tickets for public transportation need to be purchased at the airport. A one-day-ticket costs 12.80 €. The duration of the train trip from the airport to the Faculty for Psychology and Education is about 50 minutes.

A further option is the Lufthansa Express Bus, which connects the Munich Airport to the city center. The bus will take you to the subway station Nordfriedhof, where you can transfer to the subway lines U3 (direction: Fürstenried West) or U6 (direction: Klinikum Großhadern/Harras) and get off at Giselastraße (3rd stop south from Nordfriedhof).

The map of the Munich public transportation lines is available online.

By train:

Near and far distance trains serviced by Deutsche Bahn (German Rail) from all over Germany arrive at Munich main station. From there, take any of the S-Bahn trains in the direction of Marienplatz. At Marienplatz, transfer to the subway lines U3 (direction: Moosach/Olympia-Einkaufs-Zentrum) or U6 (direction: Garching Forschungszentrum/Garching-Hochbrück/Fröttmaning) and get off at Giselastrasse (3rd stop north from Marienplatz). There, take the rear exit of the subway station and turn to the right. You are then standing in front of the Faculty for Psychology and Education building (so-called “piggy” building due to its pink colour). The duration of the train trip from the main station to the Faculty for Psychology and Education is about 10 minutes.
