REASON Curriculum

Throughout their studies and in thier research projects at the REASON doctoral school PhD candidates must fulfill the requirements stipulated in the Learning Sciences PhD regulations (Version May 2014).

The mandatory curriculum unit entails content related courses, research methodology courses, key qualification courses as well as research colloquia, retreats and the participation in the REASON spring schools.

  • Content related courses are offered either by REASON or by the institutions affiliated to the MCLS/REASON. They are typically organized as weekly courses.  
    Examples: introduction to the Learning Sciences, learning in specific domains
  • Research methodology courses are offered either by REASON or by the institutions affiliated to the MCLS/REASON. They are typically organized as workshops.
    Examples: advanced statistical procedures, courses on research software
  • Key qualification workshops are offered either by REASON or by the institutions affiliated to the MCLS/REASON. They are typically organized as workshops.
    Examples: transferable skills, self-regulation skills, presentation skills
  • Colloquia take place either within the program or at the chairs of the advisors.
  • Retreats are structured intense study periods offered exclusively within MCLS/REASON. The assignments and structure are moderated by the doctoral school professors.
