SIG 7 - Structure and Development of Scientific Reasoning and Argumentation
Content
In this group, we focus on the structure and development of scientific reasoning and argumentation. Scientific reasoning is a complex set of abilities comprising many various interrelated cognitive processes. Developments of evidence evaluation skills, understanding covariation, strategies like control of variables are some of the examples of our focus. In addition to the scientific reasoning processes, we focus on cognitive processes (e.g. working memory, problem solving, and executive functioning) and constructs (e.g. curiosity, motivation, intelligence) those are likely to be related to the development of scientific reasoning and argumentation.
One of the aims of this group is to establish a clear understanding of scientific reasoning and argumentation and its developmental progress. Additionally, we aim to create a literature database to support other members of the REASON group whose research can be fostered by the developmental progress of scientific reasoning and argumentation.
