Theory goes Practice

First results of the research projects are directly disseminated into school practice

„Cooperative Learning Environments in Science Education”

On October, 5th 2011 Prof. Dr. Birgit J. Neuhaus and Sarah Sennebogen from the Institute of Biology Education held a workshop on how cooperative learning environments can foster competence based learning in science education.  The workshop was based on results of the dissertation of Sarah Sennebogen from the DTP.

The workshop took place the scope of the EU-funded project “Fibonacci”, which aims to disseminate inquiry-based learning approaches in science and mathematics education. The goal of the workshop was to bring together results of empirical research concerning cooperative learning environments and to present theory-based teaching units. The participants will now disseminate theories and materials by giving further teacher trainings using the same materials.

In the first part, Prof. Dr. Birgit J. Neuhaus gave a presentation on the theoretical and empirical background and in the second part teachers were able to take a closer look at the developed cooperative teaching units.

In 2012 and 2013 further workshops on different topics from biology education are planned.
